And over the years, we have been entrusted with the Steinway pianos of renowned performing artists, foreign heads of state, concert venues and leading music colleges, as well as invaluable art case pianos, including the famous White House Steinway presented to president Roosevelt in 1938. The art of properly building a piano has been described as the musical equivalent of restoring its soul. It’s a responsibility we welcome, whether your cherished Steinway is in need of custom refinishing, or replacement of the action or soundboard. Who Better To Restore Your Steinway Than The Craftsmen Who Built It?Inside the Steinway & Sons factory, the pride and genius of Steinway craftsmen create each new Steinway by hand. This uncompromising process requires up to one full year to complete. And inside the same factory, an identical commitment is devoted to restoring your Steinway. All work is performed by Steinway craftspeople, who are thoroughly educated in the demanding processes and procedures of rebuilding Steinway Pianos. No one else has the original designs, specifications and equipment necessary. And no one is as capable of restoring your Steinway to its finest state. When replacing or repairing wood, we follow the original specifications and use similar wood species, as opposed to using epoxies and fillers, and laminating over them with cheaper substitute woods. And the luster of each Steinway finish is created by a lengthy refinishing process of curing and hand rubbing, using lacquers specially produced for Steinway & Sons. We cordially invite a tour of our facilities, where you can see various stages of the rebuilding process, and view finished instruments. Where possible, we will evaluate your piano in your home. And all Restoration Center contracts are carefully detailed in writing. You will receive a Steinway & Sons 5 year warranty on all replacement parts and services provided. Your name, and the serial number of your piano will be recorded in our log books, which catalog every Steinway piano manufactured and restored by Steinway & Sons since 1853.
